You have a fantastic deck out in your yard, perhaps even attached to your home, and yet periodically you need to make the time to properly clean it.
However, there are things you can do in terms of your own education when it comes to cleaning your deck well that if you know about them ahead of time, your deck will look that much better after you’ve finished cleaning.
One of the most fairly obvious things that people sometimes need to be reminded about is the fact that when you’re looking to power wash your deck, you shouldn’t have any of the furniture on it.
This means that you’re going to have to make the effort to fully remove the furniture, and while this can be quite a difficult endeavor it is one that is well worth it because you aren’t going to want to try to move the furniture around while you are cleaning.
On top of this you’re not going to accidentally damage your furniture with the power washer if you aim the water stream toward the deck and accidentally hit the furniture instead.
Another key thing that you should do when you are getting ready to power wash your deck is to fully sweep the deck of any and all debris that might be on the surface.
Though it might not seem like that big of a deal to have some debris on the deck and that it’s just going to fly off when you power wash — this is not a good solution.
Better to properly remove the debris first so that you don’t have soaking wet debris flying around in the air while you are trying to wash the deck.
If you’re like a lot of people you will have something stored under your deck… possibly a number of things stored under there.
You can probably imagine where we are going with this — having things under the deck plus the water from your power washing is not going to make for a great combination.
Take the time to protect those things with a good tarp and you will be better off than if you just leave them exposed.
There are a number of standard heads that are available for your power washer and each of them serve a different use as far as washing goes.
You are going to have to make sure that you use the right washer head so that you don’t use too much force on the deck such that you don’t cause any damage to it.
There are as you might imagine quite a number of soaps that you’re going to be able to use when you’re making use of the power washer to clean your decks.
This doesn’t mean that you can just use any of them to clean the deck — rather, you should think carefully about what soap you will be using and whether or not it is going to be appropriate for the kind of deck that you have.
Simply put, you have to be careful not to have the head of your washer too close to the surface that is being washed.
This is because even if you don’t have the washer set to too high of a pressure, you are neverthless possibly going to damage your deck if you get it too close.
Just think of it this way – it’s a bit like how when you get closer to a wall in the dark with the flashlight, the light seems more intense — that’s how it is with the water from your power washer.
Lastly, remember that you should watch the weather and make sure that the weather is not too rough when you’re out cleaning your deck.
You want moderate weather that’s not too hot or cold, and in any case it should be clear that you should not be power washing when it snows!
