In 1794, he purchased 200 acres of land in Whitemarsh, Montgomery County, and completed it within two years. In the following years, he experienced financial difficulties and sold The Highlands to Daniel Hitner and George Sheaff. In 1957, the mansion was donated to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
